Our History & Heritage
Oundle Carpets & Flooring has a proud history with founder Peter Peel having spent a lifetime in the industry. The business in Oundle has been trading since 2000 initially operating under a different name, The Rugmakers Co.
Starting with just a whipping machine, a warehouse and a selection of carpet remnants we began by manufacturing rugs in Oundle and taking them over to Peterborough Market which even in the summer found a way of being cold. It was a friendly atmosphere with a large diverse community of traders selling everything from fruit and veg to video games. From this outlet we were able to begin to build a customer base and it wasn’t long before we moved towards the traditional supply and fitting aspect of the industry.

Founder of Oundle Carpets & Curtains
“We know about carpets and flooring – we care about our customers. That’s why we enjoy the benefit of so many long standing clients.”
Once the company had become more established within the area it was time for us to leave the market stall origins and focus more on the modern retail aspects with an increased workload on estimating and fitting front, we were unable to find time to cover both areas so choose to focus within the Oundle area setting up premises in the town on Eastwood Road.
From there we began to investigate the manufacturing aspect of industry making our carpets using a pass machine. We started with 2 of these initially expanding to 4 making our own carpets from Oundle between 2010 to 2014 where we were able to produce upwards of 60 rolls of our own locally produced carpet.
Using the experience gained in store we expanded our reputation and our staffing numbers. Currently Oundle Carpets & Flooring are responsible for around 10 employees including Peter’s son Tom who now helps manage the business.
There are plans to expand further as demand increases through a mixture of new customers along side our loyal existing ones, such as one commercial customer who has been with us from the very start.
